Liverpool are in a battle to get Lucas Vazquez from Real Madrid according to Diario Madridista. The report further suggests that Jurgen Klopp is willing to add more firepower to the forward line at Anfield.
Vazquez plays mostly as a right winger for the La Liga giants but as with almost every player that is not a big name in the side, does not get a lot of starts. The 26-year-old winger made 33 appearances for Real last season in the league but just 12 of those were starts.
The Spaniard did score 2 goals and 7 assists for the Spanish giants and might be looking for more regular football rather than sitting on the bench most of the time. We aren’t the only club looking to sign him up as Arsenal and AS Roma are also looking to bring Vazquez over from the Spanish capital. Both the Premier League sides could do with some extra attacking power ahead of next season.
However, it will be a major surprise if we actually move for Vazquez as we already have a lot of options for our forward line. Mohamed Salah joined us as our first transfer in and with the likes of Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the squad, we have options that can step up should we suffer from injury crisis.
Further, Vazquez wants to play regular football and that is something we cannot guarantee even with European football at Anfield next season. The 26-year-old most probably would end up at Roma, if it was just between the three clubs listed.
Roma do need more players as they have lost Salah to us and Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea. Even if Vazquez does join them on loan, it would be a decent option for the Italian side to have as they look to chase down the mighty Juventus next season.
We need to now keep our heads down and look to complete the deals of Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk as they would really improve the squad ahead of the coming season.
