Lazar Markovic

Looks like Lazar Markovic’s stint at the Anfield is coming to an end. Serie A side Fiorentina are interested in signing the winger this summer, with the Reds looking to recoup £16million for the player. Goal’s Liverpool correspondent Melissa Reddy confirmed that the Florence side are ready to continue their interest in the 23-year-old.

Markovic started the pre-season as part of Jurgen Klopp’s side that beat Tranmere Rovers 4-0 at the start of this month. However, he was left out of the match against Wigan Athletic and was told that he is free to leave the club.

According to the report, Markovic has now travelled to Italy along with his agent to assess Fiorentina’s interest as he plots his Liverpool exit. This comes in the wake of interest from English Premier League with Watford and Leicester City interested in the winger.

Markovic joined the Merseyside in 2014 from Benfica in a deal worth £20million. He struggled to show his worth to the Kop faithful though and was subsequently loaned out to Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, and Hull City.

Barring his stint with Hull, his other engagements have been uneventful, with nothing to show that he can be a permanent fixture at Liverpool. Klopp has already indicated that Markovic would be sold this transfer window.

Watford’s interest in the player is genuine too, although they are not ready to meet our valuation of £16million. The Viola have been long-term admirers of the Serbian forward and want him to join Stefano Pioli’s revolution this year. They have been very busy this summer, signing 10 players so far and Markovic could be the next.

Will He Be Missed At The Anfield?

Personally, I was very happy when Markovic signed for the club and was hoping that he would have an impact; if not immediate, at least eventually. He could never meet the expectations of the fans and his career never took off here. Hopefully, he would be able to revive it in Italy, with Fiorentina. Wish him all the best!
