Liverpool Clear To Sign Versatile Midfielder Despite West Ham Making First Attempts As Target Dreams An Anfield Switch

Liverpool were rumoured to be interested in Genoa winger Diego Laxalt earlier in the summer according to Italian outlet Tuttomercato and the same outlet now reports that the Reds are still showing plenty of interest in the versatile Uruguayan.

The 24-year-old has caught the attention of Liverpool after coming in with some decent performances last season. He may have scored only one goal and 4 assists, but he was primarily playing as a left wing-back. Laxalt excelled in his position with 1.8 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game.

Genoa will be ready to listen to the offers for the 24-year old as he has only 12 months left on his contract. He can play anywhere along the left flank. At this situation, the club may lose him for nothing and this is a serious danger indeed. After having signed him from Inter Milan only last year, Genoa will want to recoup as much as they can from the player’s sale.

Laxalt is reportedly dreaming about a move to Anfield. He has been made aware of the interest from other clubs apart from Liverpool. It is understood that West Ham and Italian outfit Torino are also interested in his signature. However, the possibility of playing for a top club like Liverpool will be tough to turn down for the winger.

West Ham are reported to have made the first approach for Laxalt, as they made a €10million offer a few weeks ago (Corrierre dello Sport via Sport Witness). The Hammers have been tracking the player for quite a while now. However, the interest from West Ham has subsided after the club decided to bring in Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City last week for a club record fee of up to £25million (Guardian).

Even though Laxalt may not be able to secure regular first-team football at Anfield, he will be a squad player capable of stepping in whenever needed. One does not expect any shortage of games at Liverpool this season due to the return of the Champions League. This might turn out to be a sensible move after all.
