Liverpool Ready To Gamble With Midfielder’s Future Despite Knowing That He Could Leave On A Free

One of the top priorities for Jurgen Klopp this summer is to keep hold of Emre Can. The 23-year-old German international has under 12 months remaining on his contract and is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

With interest from Juventus in the combative midfielder well-known, it could get tricky for the Reds if Can decides not to renew his contract and leave on a free transfer next summer.

As per latest reports from the Italian radio station TMW (via Turkish Football

), Juventus put together a bid and were ready to negotiate. However, the Anfield chiefs were reluctant to discuss any deal and have maintained that Can is not up for sale this summer.

Turkish outlet Sozcu maintained that the Serie A giants were ready to bid €45million for the player. This, after some outlets, reported that Can has agreed to personal terms with Juventus.

Can is rated very highly by Jurgen Klopp under whom the midfielder excelled last season after a tough initiation at Anfield. He scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 40 appearances last season, after some consistent performances.

He returned to first-team during the last week of July after helping his national team lift the Confederations Cup in Russia. With eyes set on a regular berth in the German side during the world cup year, Can is looking at regular first-team action.

Will He Go?

It is a very tricky situation for the Reds, to say the least. There is no doubt that we want him to stay and even tabled a £100,000-a-week bumper deal (Tutto Mercato Web). The return of Champions League will provide enough games and attention for Can to showcase his worth to his national coach Joachim Löw.

However, if he keeps stalling on the new contract, Liverpool will have no option than to cash in on the player. Getting €45million for someone in the final year of his contract is great business although his value to Klopp’s plans is much more.

Liverpool are ready to take a risk and reject all overtures of Juventus but it could prove to be a wrong decision as well.

Do you think selling the player makes more sense under current scenario? May be, this is what is called a conundrum!
