Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has called his former club to pull off an audacious bid to sign the disgruntled Chelsea striker Diego Costa. The Sky Sports TV pundit believes that the striker can be an asset to Jurgen Klopp this season considering the constant injury problems of Daniel Sturridge.

He made this observation while speaking to The Irish Examiner and put up the idea of making this sensational move.

“Dare I say it: Diego Costa signs for Atletico Madrid and then gets loaned out to Liverpool? It would be quite a dream, wouldn’t it? I’d take him for six months. Going back three or four years when Liverpool were in for Costa, I think we offered 20 million.”

Costa Is Definitely Moving Out

The Spanish striker is sure to move out of Stamford Bridge this summer after what transpired between the player and the club. After manager Antonio Conte has ostracized him from the club’s pre-season, the striker is training alone in his native. His camp is engaged in a war of words with the club, with indications of a legal battle.

The striker would love to move back to his old club Atletico Madrid, although there are complications.

Atletico To Sign And Loan Him To Liverpool?

The Spanish capital side is banned from signing new players and can only get Costa on their books next January. So the best they can do is to sign Costa and then loan him to some other club until the winter transfer window. With Alvaro Morata already on the books at Chelsea and Conte having reached an impasse with the striker, it is only a matter of time before Costa leaves the club.

Thompson believes that even if it is for six months, it would be a great move to get a proven striker on the books.

Not The First Time We Were Interested

The combative striker was eyed sometime back when Liverpool wanted to pair him with Luis Suarez. The 28-year-old is one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League who loves riling opponent defenders with his antics and winding up opponents.

Will we be able to sign him? Looks a long shot because Chelsea would not want to strengthen a rival and give a chance for the striker to bite them back. Nevertheless, it is an interesting suggestion from the former Anfield great.

What do you think?
