Good News As Attacker Provides Injury Boost For Liverpool – On Course To Be Fit For Season Opener

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is stepping up his injury recovery as he prepares to get fit for the 2017/18 season opener against Watford on August 12, according to The Telegraph. The England international is hopeful of returning to full training next week, which should be good news for the Kop faithful.

The Reds are already without a clutch of first-team regulars and this should come as a huge relief for manager Jurgen Klopp.

Injury-hit Side

Klopp has a lot of injuries to deal with, even before the start of the season. Nathaniel Clyne is out with a back injury while club captain Jordan Henderson is also out because of illness.

Playmaker Philippe Coutinho is out with a back injury joining Sturridge who was already out with a thigh injury. To make matters worse, midfielder Adam Lallana suffered a thigh injury during the Audi Cup final on Wednesday. Reports from The Daily Mail indicate that the England international could be out of action for three months.

Sturridge’s Recovery Is Good News

The injuries to Clyne and Lallana is a huge setback for Klopp as the duo is set to be missed for a lengthier period. But Henderson, Coutinho, and Sturridge are all on their road to recovery already. As per latest reports in The Telegraph

, Sturridge will resume training early next week and hopes to be in contention for the trip to Watford.

There is never a doubt in the quality of Sturridge. Fans still rejoice about the way he and Luis Suarez combined to dismantle Premier League defences during the 2013-14 season, leading them to the second position. He could never repeat those performances because of nagging injuries and hopes to be fully-fit and recapture the same this time around.

Klopp still rates Roberto Firmino higher than Sturridge and will be his first-choice forward but that shouldn’t be a worry for the 27-year-old. The England international is a great option for Klopp especially since there will be many chances to rotate the side over the course of the season. If he can find his fitness back, this season could prove to be a great chance for Sturridge to establish himself under Klopp.

Provided, he stays fit and steers clear of injuries!
