Liverpool Transfer News – New Twist In Coutinho Saga As Barcelona End Their Pursuit For The Attacker

Liverpool fans would rejoice hearing this news. Latest reports from Liverpool Echo indicate that Spanish side Barcelona have ended their interest in signing Reds’ playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian international has always been pivotal to Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the upcoming season. We have maintained our stance that the midfielder is not for sale at ‘any price’ although the Catalans tried their best to change that.

Flush With Cash

Interest from Barcelona has always been there but it turned into desperation once their forward Neymar moved to French side Paris Saint-Germain in a world record £198million

move. PSG had to buy out his release clause which means the Spanish side is flush with cash and can go with more vigour in the transfer market. Their initial plan was to add Coutinho to the ranks and use him to convince Neymar to stay.

Liverpool Always In The Driving Seat

The Reds though, were always in pole position to keep the star player. Anfield faithful have adored Coutinho and Klopp has time and again reiterated that he has no intention of selling him. The German tactician’s man-management skills have seen the player improve his performances and there is anticipation at the club that this season could be a game changer.

Liverpool To Resist All Advances

Michael Owen has backed his former club to resist any advances and hold on to their best player. There were reports that a £72million bid was tabled by Barcelona which was duly rejected by the Anfield chiefs (Guardian).

There are reports from Italian outlets Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport (via Liverpool Echo) that Barcelona may now look at the option of signing Argent0ina international Paulo Dybala from Juventus. He is a national teammate of Lionel Messi.

Barcelona May End Coutinho Chase

All this have meant that the Catalans had to admit defeat in their chase of Coutinho. This transfer season has seen Liverpool be more of a ‘buying club’ than a selling one. With Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson having already signed for the club, there is an increased balance to the side. Selling Coutinho will bring us back to square minus one and hence we should not even think of that.
