Liverpool might get some good news regarding transfers this time around as Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will be sold by the Italian club if the price is right.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via talkSPORT), the club did receive a £24million bid from us which was rejected but the same outlet (Corriere dello Sport) is now claiming that Serie A club will sell the Serbian for a price of €70million (£64million), which would continue the crazy summer fees being spent this summer.
The report also claims that there will be a lot of competition if we are to sign the Serbian U21, as Italian clubs such as Inter Milan and Juventus are willing to fight it out for the youngster.
Former PSV Eindhoven and Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman, who is the agent for the 22-year-old, had earlier stated that his client was not going to move away from the Serie A club but it now appears that the Serbian will now be sold for the right price.
The 22-year-old scored 7 goals in 38 games for the Serie A side and has a contract until 2022 but the big problem would be to fit the midfielder in when we already have a number of players at the club. Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Adam Lallana and even Philippe Coutinho, for now, will be first-team choices while Milinkovic-Savic would possibly play only the cup games and spend more time on the bench.
The other issue is the price, with Lazio wanting a rather crazy amount that no one might want to pay. This seems to be a tactic for all the clubs in the summer, as pricing a player to an astronomical figure does scare suitors away.
The 22-year-old might want to join a bigger club with more playing time but this is not the year to make such a decision as he is having a decent enough time at Lazio.
Considering that this is a World Cup year, moving to another club can lead to a player losing their form, especially in a new country. We are in for a tough battle ahead of the season and the last thing we need is to splash €70million on Milinkovic-Savic.
