Report – Liverpool Ready To Splash €40 Million On Naby Keita Alternative

Jean-Michael Seri, the Nice midfielder, is a player who Liverpool have marked as a possible signing in the summer window. The Guardian claims that the Reds have expressed an interest in the Ivorian star and are looking for alternatives to Naby Keita.

Keita was our original choice for the heart of midfield but RB Leipzig have refused to sell the 22-year-old Guinean and we have had to deal with a number of rejected bids

by the Bundesliga side.

Seri, on the other hand, was one of the brightest talents for a fantastic Nice side that made it to the Champions League qualifiers.

The 25-year-old does have a number of teams that want to sign him up, including Swansea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton. The Ivorian has also been scouted by Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain as well.

Nice have already lost a player or two this season but are reportedly not looking to sell any more stars. However, the report from the Guardian claims that should Seri get a good offer coming in, the club will not stand in the way of any transfer that might take place.

A Quality Option For Our Midfield

While Seri is not a player that is on the same level as Keita, the midfielder is actually a pretty good defensive option for the heart of our midfield.

What we have been lacking for a season or so is someone who can protect the defence and also break the attacks. Seri might not make a lot of lung-bursting runs like Keita does, but if he can shore up our leaky back-line, we would have done pretty well to get him in.

Barcelona were looking to sign Seri and were willing to pay out his release clause of €40million. But after they signed Paulinho from out of the blue, it seems unlikely they will move for the Ivorian.

We are in desperate need of a quality midfielder who can do a bit of dirty work and Seri seems to be that player. Keita would probably come next season for a cut price deal but for now, Seri is a great option and someone who would thrive under Jurgen Klopp.
