One player in the RB Leipzig team getting a lot of attention in the German press is their forward Timo Werner. Much of it is down to his prolific scoring prowess both at the club and the country level.
At just 21 years of age, Werner is undoubtedly one of the hottest young talents in Europe right now with clubs watching very eagerly as to how he’s progressing at his club. With his teammate Naby Keita already on his way to the Merseyside, the forward discussed how big a club Liverpool is.
As discussed in his interview with SportBild, Werner said about Keita’a transfer (as quoted by Sport Witness):
“There’s no anger to him. Liverpool is a big club with a great stadium and super fans, plus it’s a huge transfer.”
During the summer, most of Liverpool’s transfer business revolved around Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita. The Southampton defender was a prime target for Jurgen Klopp but somehow managed to stay out of our grasp. However, the deal for Keita was the biggest talking point.
But all attention now at RB Leipzig and in Germany is on Werner. The forward has scored six goals in his last four games – two for his national side and two for his club.
Werner knows that he may leave RB Leipzig at some point of his career in search of titles and that would be to only one of the big names. He has mentioned Liverpool as one of the top clubs and that indicates that the player has the reds in his sight.
It is not the first time that the youngster has been linked with a move to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for the player is well-known. Will he be the next one to move from Leipzig to Anfield?
That may not be the case because Werner could even end up at Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are another noted admirers of his talent and have an unwritten rule that all the German national stars should come from them.
Looking at the situation, it is difficult to see how Timo Werner could do a Naby Keita and end up at Liverpool.
