‘So far he has trained outstandingly’ – Liverpool Boss Provides Positive Update On Star Midfielder

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given an injury update on long-term absentees Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Ings. Speaking to the media ahead of the weekend clash against Burnley, Klopp touched many things and also spoke about the sidelined trio.

“Ingsy is in training, Adam and Clyney are still too far away,” he said as quoted by Daily Star.

“Maybe Adam can start running this week or beginning of next week. Clyney is improving a lot, I’m not sure about when it will be that he starts training completely normal.”

The Reds face an important weekend after a disappointing 5-0 defeat by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. We had to play most of the game with ten men, having seen Sadio Mane receive a red card under controversial circumstances.

That was no excuse, as the Liverpool defence was shredded into pieces by the marauding City forwards. The frailties of the Reds’ back-four were once again to the fore in the Champions League against Sevilla.

Starting their campaign on a bright note, the Reds dominated the game with a high tempo but had to settle for a 2-2 draw. It was a game that they were expected to win but Liverpool could not close out the lead they had against the La Liga side.

Basic errors cost them the game once again and Klopp will hope that the game against Burnley gets his side back on track. He will have to do this without the sidelined trio and the suspended Mane.

Ings, who came back after two serious knee injuries, played in the U23s game against Manchester City and was taken off as a precautionary measure.

Lallana has been missing from action after picking up a thigh injury during pre-season and will not start running until next week. Clyne too is out after picking up a back problem in a friendly game during the summer and is expected to return only in 2018.

One player who could be handed a start in the weekend is Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian playmaker was in limbo throughout the summer, after being courted by Barcelona. However, the Reds rightfully rejected all the advances of the Catalans, although Coutinho had his mind set on a move.

Having come back into the side by making a substitute appearance in the Champions League match against Sevilla in the midweek, the midfielder is all set to make his first start of the season.

“Coutinho should be ready. I was really happy with how the crowd welcomed him, I don’t think anyone was 100% sure on this,” Klopp said.

“I think as a Liverpool family, we were sensitive to it. For him it was good. So far he has trained outstandingly.”

Let’s hope we keep a clean sheet against Burnley.
