“I still believe I can play in this team” – Forgotten Liverpool Attacker Vows To Fight For His Place

Liverpool’s forgotten man Danny Ings believes he still has a “big part to play” at the club and is not looking to secure a move away from the club, ahead of the winter transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been unlucky with his injuries – both timing and spate of injuries – to have spent more time on the sidelines than on the pitch. He is still working his way back to full fitness after a succession of long-term knee injuries that kept him out of the team for almost the entire duration of past two seasons.

The former Burnley striker who joined the Reds in 2015, featured for the first time in nearly two years, as he came on as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester City.

The youngster is yet to feature in the Premier League under manager Jurgen Klopp but believes that it is just a matter of time before he turns it around.

“Everywhere I have been, I have always found a way to make it happen. I have been in a lot of tough situations at previous clubs where it has been hard to break in,” Ings told The Times (reported via Sky Sports).

“People from the outside looking in will probably have the assumption, ‘Oh, he’s the forgotten man’ but it has not crossed my mind at all. I still believe in myself. I still believe I can play in this team.

Klopp has a number of options up front with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, and Dominic Solanke ahead of Ings in the pecking order.

However, the England international, who has a lone cap to his name this season, is not ready to give up and believes that he still has a big part to play at Anfield.

“When you are at a club like Liverpool, it is not a club that you want to walk away from. It would grate on me for the rest of my career, and the rest of my life, if I had not done everything to give it my all.

“I still feel like I have a big part to play in this football club.”

Ings made his name at Burnley where he won the 2013/14 Championship Player of the Year and helped them achieve promotion to the Premier League. However, they were immediately relegated and on expiry of his contract, Ings joined Liverpool. However, injuries have marred his career and it is purely a matter of bad luck that we couldn’t witness what he could do.
