The buildup to England’s game vs Slovenia was perfectly poised and for all right reasons I must say, England’s attack was scoring goals week after week in the domestic circuit, while for Slovenia’s defence, all eyes were on their undisputed No. 1, Jan Oblak. Only some hours before the game, stats revealed that the stopper had kept more clean sheets (50) in La Liga for Atletico Madrid than he has conceded goals (49). Quite an achievement!

The game was perfectly deadlocked until the stoppage time. Kyle Walker delivered a perfect cross into the box and bang! Harry Kane was at his usual best yet again. Getting past Oblak was never going to be an easy task and if someone from the English team had to do it, it was Harry Kane.

His performance against England, for Liverpool fans, in particular, was so jaw-dropping that they demanded the club officials to sign him up right away. Signing him, however, won’t be a walk in the park as Metro Sports claims that Oblak carries a £87m

release clause in his contract. Besides, some ‘serious interest’ from a host of European clubs will be deemed as an issue as well. PSG were firmly linked
with the Slovenian and they are reportedly still in the hunt.

Liverpool, on their part, have Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius but both of them are yet to hit the ground running. On their day, they are dazzling, but unfortunately, that is not the case usually. Everything aside, it is on Atletico at the end of the day as to whether Oblak would be allowed to leave or not; and judging by his age and the form that he is in, it isn’t likely to be the case. Liverpool fans, however, were optimistic in their desire to have the Slovenian signed and this is how they reacted on Twitter:
