Jurgen Klopp Explains Why This New Signing Has Not Been Playing Regularly For Liverpool

Andrew Robertson was expected to become our first-choice left-back once he moved from Hull City at the start of the season. The Scot was relegated with the Tigers but we snapped him up for a really low price of £10 million but not everything has gone his way since moving to Anfield.

The 23-year-old has only played in three games for us this season and has seen Alberto Moreno keep his place in the after a bit of a resurgence in his Liverpool career.

There have been a number of fans who have questioned as to why Robertson is not playing for us but Jurgen Klopp has come out and said that the Scot needs more time to learn how to play the Liverpool way.

“People will say ‘why do you do that? Because he is here and not playing?’

“Because he has to learn. But there is no problem. We are in conversation, talk about it and he has to improve.”

The German was speaking to the Liverpool FC site and also added that Moreno’s form is one reason why we have not played with Robertson, though the door is still open for the 23-year-old to get game time for us.

“As long as the other players are doing like this. Alberto is like a little machine, he never shows when he is tired and stuff like this.

“Andrew has had a little less rhythm. So you think now, okay, he will have a game with the national team and come back. We will have a little internal game then and that’s good for Andy.

“So he’s on a good way, a really good way. It’s going well apart from maybe he is not happy he cannot start so often as he would have thought from the beginning.

“But it’s all about improvement and then to be ready for the moment you are used.”

Playing under Klopp isn’t easy and even though Robertson has performed well for us, the German’s logic does make sense.

Moreno too has been on fire this season and dropping him has not been easy. There will be chances in the future thanks to a fixture congestion which we will see in December and January.

Robertson could have clocked a lot of minutes had we stayed in the Carabao Cup but with the FA Cup and Champions League games around the corner, the Scot will have a few chances to prove that he is a good buy not only for the present but the future as well.
