14-Year Old Irish Youngster Making Wakes In The Irish League Is Linked With Liverpool – Man United Are Also Interested

Conner Byrne

With the January transfer window on the anvil, we keep hearing about a lot of players being linked with Liverpool. And, it is not just the established ones that are being linked with a move to Anfield, some of the talented teenagers are being linked as well.

One of those talented teenagers currently being linked with a move to Liverpool is Irish League teenager, Conner Byrne. (Belfast Telegraph)

The 14-year-old goalkeeper is already making waves in the Irish League and was fielded in the 2-1 win for Glenavon in the Mid-Ulster Cup semi-final.

The youngster is eyed by some of the Premier League giants as Liverpool are joined by Manchester United in the race for his signature. Byrne has spent time at the Leeds United Academy this week and is considered to be a hot prospect.

There is also reported interest in the player from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, although it is being claimed that United could be the one with the strongest interest. However, the Reds believe that the presence of Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard could work as a magnet for the player and I feel that we have an edge in that aspect when it comes to our Academy.

Whatever is his destination, it is being said that Byrne would make a move out of the club, as reiterated by the Glenavon club chairman Adrian Teer.

He said (as quoted by Belfast Telegraph):

“There has already been a lot of interest in Conner from a number of cross-channel clubs. He is a great prospect.”

The youngster represented Northern Ireland Under-16s last month and his rise to stardom has been very swift. He made his debut for Glenavon Under-20s in October and within a matter of weeks, he found himself being drafted into the first team.

It is not yet sure if his appearance is an Irish League record. He was 14 years and 245 days old when he made his debut although previous records indicate Jason Greenaway was 15 years and 174 days old when he was handed his debut.

I think he is already a great prospect and is surely better than playing in the Irish League. Let’s hope Liverpool make the right move at the right time and sign the youngster.
