Liverpool are interested in signing Club Brugge’s Marvelous Nakamba after a series of superb performances, as per reports. A report on African Football suggests that the Reds are monitoring the Zimbabwe powerhouse to replace Emre Can, who could leave Liverpool on a Bosman transfer.
Can, who earns £55,000-a-week, has rejected Liverpool’s proposal of a contract extension as his current deal expires in the summer. It is also possible that Jurgen Klopp could sell the German midfielder in the winter transfer window to get some funds rather than lose him for free in the summer.
It seems like Klopp has already started planning and has set his eyes on Brugge star Marvelous Nakamba. The 23-year-old starts every game for the Belgian giants in central midfield and is regarded as an extremely diligent player. He usually is regarded as a midfield dictator who keeps the ability to move the ball in tight spaces.
The Zimbabwean hasn’t been plying his trade in Belgium for long, and already seems to be attracting interest from abroad after only 17 matches. Having joined from the Dutch club Vitesse for £4m in the summer, he’s helped his side to the top of the league, 8 points clear of 2nd-placed Sporting Charleroi.
Following his impressive showing at Brugge, he has been linked with a move to European giants such as Liverpool, who are reportedly leading the chase for his signature.
“Yes, some people told me that I have a game cut for England because of my qualities, it’s (a move is) possible,” Nakamba said.
“It was the only European championships we could watch at home (Zimbabwe). We’ll see later, it’s nice to know that some clubs are watching me.
“What’s important now is for me to be successful with the club and my national team.
“For great competitions, here we have a good team and an excellent midfield where I feel very comfortable alongside players like (Hans) Vanaken or (Ruud) Vormer,” he added.
Newcastle are also reportedly interested in making a move for Nakamba, but with Liverpool’s Champions League presence and overall league performance, the midfielder is believed to prefer a move to Merseyside if they come knocking.
Nakamba has not only been described as combative but also as someone whose technical qualities and quickness of thoughts are underrated. His best attributes are his passing and tackling, making him very much a versatile midfielder.
With Can destined to leave us, Klopp has done an excellent job in striking a deal with RB Leipzig for Naby Keita. Keita, who will be with us from next summer, is deemed to be an instant upgrade on Can. So it’s difficult to explain what role Nakamba will play if he joins Klopp’s side.
