Liverpool are reportedly lining up a January move for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in Trapp, who wants to move away from the French giants.
The 27-year-old has struggled to earn regular game time this season and has made just two appearances in the Ligue 1 this season with manager Unai Emery preferring to utilise Alphonse Areola as his first choice shot-stopper.
Trapp, who has made 60 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG since joining the club back in 2015, is looking out for a fresh challenge and therefore wants to quit Parc des Princes in the New Year.
The goalkeeper’s representative, Jorg Neubauer, has admitted Trapp will look to move on from the Ligue 1 leaders if they are willing to sell next month.
Asked if Trapp could move on from PSG in January, Neubauer told Sport 1 (h/t Metro)
“If there is a chance in the winter, Kevin wants to leave Paris.”
After making 30 appearances for PSG last term, Trapp has acted as Areola’s deputy this season for PSG. The German has grown impatient at the lack of game time in Paris and recently talked up a move to Anfield, labelling Liverpool an ‘amazing’ club. He also hinted that he would relish the chance to work under Jurgen Klopp.
He was quoted in a report by Metro a month ago:
“It’s an amazing club with a great tradition. And of course, I’m a fan of the Premier League.
“The Reds are not without interest, they have already won many titles, and Jurgen Klopp is, of course, a very good coach.
“I have not thought of possible clubs yet. However, many things can happen in football. Even if I’m not the most patient person, I have to stay cool.”
Both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have come under intense scrutiny during their time on Merseyside and the latter in particular, received a lot of flak from the fans for last week’s performance in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Arsenal, at the Emirates stadium.
Klopp is frustrated with the number of costly mistakes the current No.1 goalkeeper Mignolet is making and is reportedly set to hold talks with the Belgian this week in light of his recent performances.
Despite making a howler against Arsenal, Klopp did hand Mignolet a start against Swansea on the Boxing Day and the shot-stopper repaid the manager’s faith by keeping a clean-sheet in the 5-0 victory at Anfield.
Would you accept Trapp as Mignolet’s replacement?
