“It’s good and I feel good” Liverpool custodian oozes confidence ahead of Porto clash

Loris Karius has been fairly solid between the sticks in recent weeks and dished out another impressive performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Southampton on Sunday.

The German, who’s been our No.1 in recent games, played a big part in the team’s opening goal at the St.Mary’s. He made a quick distribution to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who released Mohamed Salah, who fantastically set up Roberto Firmino for the opener.

With Liverpool 1-0 up against the Saints, the German made two fine saves – first blocking a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg shot before tipping a James Ward-Prowse header over the crossbar.

Our boys made the most of the keeper’s saves to double their lead through Mohamed Salah before half-time, which proved enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men to grab all three points and stay at 3rd place in the Premier League table, only two points below 2nd-placed Manchester United.

“That’s my job, to try to be there for the team when needed. The first half was a bit busier than the second – but that’s my job,” Karius told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It was a very important game. We saw the other results, we saw Tottenham win – but we did our job. We kept a clean sheet and scored a fantastic goal, that’s all we wanted.

“It’s good to go to the next away game with a positive result and to feel strong. We’ll recover and focus on Porto, which will be a big game for us.”

Klopp has rotated goalkeepers Karius and Simon Mignolet this season but last month, the manager declared the German as Liverpool’s No.1 goalkeeper. Karius feels that the stability has provided him with a good run of form lately.

“It’s good and I feel good. Getting weekly game time is very important,” he added.

“I’m still young; I had plenty of experience in the past but it’s different if you play week in, week out again and not just come in every other week for a midweek game.

“My confidence is coming and growing, I’m getting used to the game time again. It’s good for me.”

With his good show at Southampton, Karius has provided a strong case to start in Porto. The German is starting to impress the fans with his performances and let’s hope he continues his fine run of form.
