Liverpool handed huge relief as Italian champions eye Arsenal midfielder – reports

Emre Can

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their hope to keep Emre Can at the club beyond the summer. The German international is out of contract at the end of the season and is currently considering all his options.

As Can has entered the final six months of his contract, he is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club. If the midfielder fails to agree on a new contract with Liverpool, he will become a free agent in the summer.

The German was heavily linked with a move to Juventus and it is believed that the Turin giants could snap up the player for free in the summer should Liverpool fail to tie down Can to a new contract. But the midfielder during the January transfer window had admitted that he was holding talks with other clubs, as well as Liverpool.

“My agent is looking after everything but I am here until the summer,” he said in a recent interview, as reported by 90 MiN.in. I haven’t signed anything (with Juventus) or anyone. I am talking with everyone.

“Of course I am talking with Liverpool. I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.

“I just concentrate on the season, on my performance and the football. I will give everything for this team.”

When Can spoke about considering staying put at Liverpool, it gave a huge relief to the fans. But now what can come as a surprise boost for us is that Juventus have turned their attention elsewhere.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Serie A champions are now interested in signing Jack Wilshere from Arsenal in the summer.

The Arsenal midfielder’s current deal expires in June and he would be available on a free transfer, which has in fact garnered attention from Juventus.

However, the Reds are continuing fighting tooth and nail to tie down Can to a new bumper contract before the end of the season, with our gaffer Jurgen Klopp also expressing his desire to keep hold of the talented midfielder.

“Emre is here in the moment and that is the most important thing,” Klopp was quoted by the Express.

“We have to create a situation where players want to stay – that’s all we can do as a club, as a team and me as a manager. For me, there is no problem if Emre plays like he is in the moment.”

Can has gone from strength to strength at Anfield since his move from Bayer Leverkusen, and we must ensure he stays at the club beyond the summer.
