Klopp still interested in signing ‘the new De Bruyne’ after missing out on the £13m star in 2015

Piotr Zielinski

Liverpool are monitoring the progress of Napoli star Piotr Zielinski. Despite not being a first-team regular under Maurizio Sarri, Zielinski has managed to churn out some impressive performances and has gone on to make 23 appearances, scoring 4 goals.

While Napoli are first on the Serie A standings, Zielinski has only made five starts. He will surely be wanting to improve upon this and could thus be open to leaving Naples.

CalcioMercato claims that while Napoli did beat us as well as AC Milan in the race to sign Zielinski in 2015, we are eyeing him once again.

Zielinski was reportedly one of the players who Jurgen Klopp was aiming to sign when he succeeded Brendan Rodgers as our manager in 2015. However, in the end, a deal did not go through as we did not want to pay the £13million which Udinese demanded.

However, it is unlikely that Napoli will let the player leave easily especially as manager Sarri recently referred to him as the next Kevin de Bruyne. Speaking at a press conference, Sarri said:

“He is an absolute talent, he also has great physical skills and if he grows in the level of personality, he can play in any area of the court, the new De Bruyne.”

Sarri certainly has got to put in a lot of hard work if he wants to truly earn the reputation of someone like De Bruyne. He is still young and will continue to get better during the coming years.

In my opinion, Piotr Zielinski would not be ideal for us. He’s a central midfielder by trade but is capable of playing on the left-wing as well as in an attacking midfield role. Given the number of central midfielders we have at our disposal, I have no clue as to who we would offload to make room for Piotr Zielinski. A replacement for Emre Can perhaps? We have Naby Keita coming in so I don’t see any weight in these rumours.
