Liverpool’s in-form £50,000-a-week star reveals how he worked his way into the first-team

Andrew Robertson

Defender Andy Robertson has heaped praise on manager Jurgen Klopp after delivering a star performance in our 4-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Robertson joined us for a bargain fee of just £10million (initial fee of £8m

), following the relegation of Hull City from the Premier League last season. The Scotland international initially struggled to establish himself at Anfield as he went on to make just three appearances before the start of December.

However, since then, the £50,000-a-week Robertson has managed to establish himself as a first-team regular and currently has 18 first-team appearances to his name. He was given opportunities following the injury of previous first-choice Alberto Moreno and has managed to impress in the process.

Speaking after our victory over the Hammers, Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com:

“At the start of the season I had to be patient. I’m not one of those people who will go in and start telling him [Klopp] I should be playing, it was more: ‘What can I do? What do you think I’m lacking that I need to get in the team?’”

“He told me a few things that will obviously stay between us that I had to work on. I worked on them in training but Alberto was playing well, you can’t hide away from that fact and it was unfortunate that he got injured. ”

Following the injury to Moreno, Robertson has gone on to play 14 games in the Premier League and he added that he is continuing to grow in confidence.

“I feel at home now, which did take a wee bit of time, but I’m happy to be here and I just hope that I can keep kicking on,” he concluded.

At just 23-years-old, Robertson has shown that he can deliver quality performances and he will also likely continue to get better during the upcoming seasons as he is still young and can develop further as he gets older.

Time will tell whether he will finally be the solution that we need in the left-back position.
