Liverpool set to reward 22-goal superstar with ‘bumper contract’ – player currently earns £100,000-a-week

Liverpool are set to reward Roberto Firmino with a bumper new contract for his extraordinary work-rate and goals this season, according to reports.

The Brazilian has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 22 goals in 38 games in all competitions. He’s been creating havoc for the opposition defences, alongside the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Firmino, Mane and Salah have forged a deadly troika and have ripped defences to shreds this season. Firmino has been an influential figure in Jurgen Klopp’s full-throttle football and continues to be a highly underrated player in the Premier League.

He will certainly be one of Klopp’s most important members in the latter stages of the Champions League after the Reds virtually booked a place in the quarterfinals of the competition with a 5-0 thumping of FC Porto in the round of 16 first leg.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are very much keen to secure the Brazilian international’s future and are already preparing a bumper contract offer before the end of this season.

Firmino, who currently earns £100,000-a-week, is one of the most important players in the Liverpool team. It is not down to his goals and assists he provides every match, but his all-round work-rate and influence in every game that makes him a complete player.

Young right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier revealed his excitement at the way the former Hoffenheim player works for the team, claiming that the centre-forward is underrated and is a ‘special player.’

“He’s a very, very, very special player. He’s definitely underrated in terms of the recognition he gets. He links the team together. If you watch him closely, his drive and enthusiasm to get back and defend is incredible,” Alexander-Arnold was quoted by the Daily Mail.

“Most of the time you see him on the halfway line, tracking back and making tackles. You don’t really see that from an all-round No 9. It just shows his hunger to win. He’s priceless to us.

“He scores goals, he gets chances and he creates assists. There’s not much more you want from a No 9. But that’s not all he offers. It’s his defensive duties. Sometimes he overdoes it, but in a good way. He doesn’t have to do it but he’s willing to do it for the team.

“It’s his hunger. He’s a born winner. That’s very important if you want to make it in this game. You’ve got to have that drive.”

It would be a massive move to tie Firmino down to a new contract. Bobby is probably the best striker in the Premier League right now, probably even influential than Kane. Surely, a welcome move!
