According to Liverpool hero John Aldridge, winger Mohamed Salah could be a contender to win the coveted Ballon d’Or which could, in turn, prove detrimental for the Reds.
Salah has been in blistering form for Liverpool since moving from AS Roma at the start of this season. He scored four goals in the 5-0 win against Watford last weekend that took his tally to 36 goals in all competitions this campaign.
According to the Express, the Egyptian’s roaring form for the Reds has alerted Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are apparently preparing an audacious bid to lure the winger to the Bernabeu.
Former Liverpool star John Aldridge is delighted with the way Salah has taken the Premier League by storm. However, he feels Salah could lift the Ballon d’Or in near future, which in turn could prompt a move away from Anfield.
“As we have seen in recent years with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, success on this scale has consequences and I suspect it won’t be long before we see Salah being linked with a move to Real Madrid,” Aldridge wrote in his column for The Irish Independent.
“Barcelona probably won’t be able to splash the cash again having spent so much to sign Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele in recent months, but Real Madrid like to sign the next big thing in world football every summer and at this moment in time, that man is Salah.
“If he takes Liverpool close to Champions League success and then shines in the World Cup with Egypt, his status will rise to potentially unmanageable levels from Liverpool’s perspective.
“Football clubs look at so many factors aside from the talent of a player when they make a big money move these days and unfortunately, Salah ticks virtually every box Real Madrid will look for as they target their next Galactico.
“He is already just about the most famous man in Egypt, a huge superstar on the African continent and that makes him a prized asset as clubs look to raise their profile and popularity all over the world.
“In addition, he appears to be a very level headed guy who has not allowed the success that has come his way this season to go to his head, so he could probably handle the pressures of playing for a big club like Real Madrid.”
The way Salah has ripped apart defences single-handedly this season has been a treat to watch. Not only has he scored goals but has also has gelled with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to devastating effect, making Liverpool’s attack one of the most formidable forces in Europe.
I agree with John Aldridge’s thoughts on Salah. The Egyptian has everything in his locker to become the world’s best which could, in turn, see him get lured by Real.
If Real come up with an offer for the star attacker in the summer transfer window, it would be interesting to see what Liverpool do in order to hold on to their prized asset.
