Liverpool U23 boss Critchley heaps praise on the talented Harry Wilson

Harry Wilson

According to a report from Liverpool Echo, on-loan winger Harry Wilson has attracted Jurgen Klopp’s attention with his excellent performances for Hull City. His most recent performance against Burton Albion was absolutely phenomenal. Hull won 5-0 and Wilson was undoubtedly the star of the game as he chipped in with an early goal.

In fact, he has played a starring role for the Championship outfit ever since he joined them in the January transfer window. In 7 league starts, Wilson has 5 goals and 3 assists to his name and U23s boss Neil Critchley believes that the performance has impressed Klopp to a great extent.

Wilson had to make a name for himself before harbouring hopes of becoming a mainstay in the Liverpool first-team. Since joining Hull, the youngster has proven that he is more than capable of handling pressure.

If he continues this way, Wilson could stand a solid chance of making it to the first-team next season and Critchley seems to agree with it.

“That move was the right thing at the right time for him. He’s gone there and he’s banging goals galore in, assisting, winning penalties,” Critchley said.

“He’s gone to the Championship which is extremely tough. It’s a war of attrition that league. It’s Saturday-Tuesday every week, and you have to prove yourself every single game. You don’t get a lot of rest.

“He went to a team that was down at the bottom of the table, and they’ve obviously picked up, won some games and he’s contributed to that. He’s proved that he’s more than capable of playing at that level.

“He went away with his country recently and scored on his 21st birthday so he’s been in a real rich vein of form.

“If you keep scoring goals, you get noticed. We’re talking about him now, aren’t we? He’s in a really good place at the moment, and hopefully he can carry it on.

“Goalscorers are very difficult to leave out of the team or to take off the pitch because they can change games for you. Harry is a game-changer.

“He’s had a fantastic start but he’ll want to finish the season the way he is now and then come pre-season, I’m sure he’ll be thinking of being in and around the Liverpool squad for next season,” concluded the U23s boss.

Regardless of how he performs now, Wilson will have another golden opportunity to prove himself during the pre-season. The squad will be threadbare due to the upcoming World Cup, thus providing scope for him and other on-loan players like Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent to make a mark for themselves.
