Mohamed Salah scored his 40th goal of the season as Liverpool brushed aside Bournemouth at Anfield.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring in the seventh minute and the only thing that lacked after Liverpool’s persistent dominance in the first half was the second goal.
Salah was not at his usual best in front of goal but the Egyptian provided a moment of genius with 21 minutes remaining.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s high cross found Salah with his back to goal but the sensational Salah reacted quickly to score a deft header over goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to bring up his 40th goal of the season in all competitions.
With that goal against Bournemouth at Anfield, Salah became the first African-born player to reach the mark by playing in the Premier League. It was another goal which put pressure on Harry Kane in the race for the Golden Boot award.
Bournemouth spurned a couple of late chances to get back into the game but Roberto Firmino sealed the deal with a tidy finish in the injury time to help Liverpool move a point behind second-placed Manchester United.
