Forgotten Liverpool star Markovic lashes out at the club, blames them for failed transfer move

It has been a while since any of us have seen or heard about Lazar Markovic. Having joined us for a reported fee of £20m back in 2014, the Serbian winger failed to live up to his price tag and potential. He scored just 3 goals in 34 appearances that season and since then, the player has struggled to feature for us.

Regardless of how we have fared in other areas, one must admit that our attack force has been consistent. Ever since Jurgen Klopp took charge of the club, there has been an emphasis on playing high-pressing attacking football and we have thrived in this set-up. The changes gave birth to the rise of players like Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and now, Mohamed Salah.

In fact, even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has played a starring role for us in recent times and it is easy to see why Markovic has been lost in the mix. A report from Daily Star has claimed that the player wanted to leave earlier but due to the club’s hefty asking price, he found no suitors.

Lazar Markovic

Speaking to Voetbal Krant (h/t Daily Star), Markovic said:

“They asked for an unrealistic transfer fee and would not let me go permanently, even though I didn’t play there anymore.”

“This goal is to show Liverpool that I’m still alive and I am still the same good footballer they bought,” he rued.

After making appearances under Brendan Rodgers, Markovic went on to serve loan spells with the likes of Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon and Hull. He has not featured in a single game under Klopp and to be fair, his loan stints have not proven to be promising enough.

With players like Mane and Salah on the wings, it is nearly impossible to find Markovic a future at Liverpool. Thus, it might be best for us to let him leave this summer.
