Our sensational victory against AS Roma was somewhat marred due to the terrible injury sustained by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. A challenge on Aleksandar Kolarov saw him nearly twist his knee and the player eventually had to be stretchered off.
Georginio Wijnaldum came on to replace him and he put in a decent display but Oxlade-Chamberlain has played a starring role for us in recent times.
His arrival from Arsenal did raise a few eyebrows but despite a shaky start, Ox has meshed in admirably with the rest of the squad.
In fact, he has established himself as a solid creative outlet in the middle of the park and the timing of the injury is really unfortunate.
The win may have gotten us one step closer to the Champions League finale in Kiev but Ox’s absence can cause troubles for us in the matches to come.
A report published by Liverpool’s official website threw some light on the extent of his injury. The club have confirmed that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s season is all over. He is set to miss the remainder of the season for Liverpool and will also miss the World Cup in Russia.
No deadline has been set for his return but he is set to undergo a rehab to attain full fitness at the earliest, which is before the start of next season.
The news is disastrous, to say the least, and I wish the Ox a speedy recovery from his injury.
