The world of football is indeed an enchanting one for millions of fans worldwide but there are often certain incidents that diminish the beauty of the game.

Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between Liverpool and AS Roma, a couple of Roma fans had caused quite a bit of commotion near Anfield, according to a report from BBC

. As a result, violence ensued and one man was hospitalised as well.

The report has gone on to throw some light on the matter by claiming that the victim is a man by the name of Sean Cox. The 53-year-old is essentially from Dunboyne, County Meath in the Irish Republic and is currently in the hospital, recuperating from a head injury he sustained ahead of the match.

The attack is understood to have happened outside a pub near Anfield and two men have been arrested by the police for attempted murder, in addition to 7 others being held for other offences.

This act of violence sent shockwaves across most of the local footballing community and it is really unfortunate. However, this is not the first time that such an incident has taken place.

Friendly banter ahead of such games is quite common but that can turn into unruly situations in a matter of seconds.

The report has gone on to claim that Cox is a respectable member of the St. Peter’s Gaelic football club in Dunboyne. The club chairman issued a statement, as per BBC

, in which he said:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Sean and his family, and we hope that they get the privacy and space they need.”

BBC has stated that the attackers burst on to Liverpool supporters with belts and attacked most of the crowd which led to Cox’s hospitalisation.

This is indeed a shameful incident and I hope Cox recovers soon!
