Steven Gerrard could land his first managerial job as Rangers link emerges

Steven Gerrard will always be an iconic modern-day legend for Liverpool. A report from The Scottish Sun claims that the 37-year-old could be appointed as the next Rangers manager.

After Pedro Caixinha’s sacking about seven months back, Graeme Murty has been in charge as the interim manager. However, the Gers have not been able to challenge arch-rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title. Right now, they are placed 10 points behind the Hoops and their chances of catching them are rather slim.

In order to do better next term and provide a solid title challenge, Rangers will need a new manager. The Scottish Sun claims that Gerrard is a strong contender to receive the job.

Since retirement, the former midfielder has been managing Liverpool’s U18 side. His exploits have rewarded him quite well but the opportunity to join Rangers as their new manager will undoubtedly be massive for Gerrard.

It will also place him in a unique position where he would have to go head-to-head against former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers has been managing Celtic for a while now and is on the verge of winning the league title with the club this season.

The report from The Scottish Sun has gone on to claim that a deal is on the cards and that Rangers’ director of football Mark Allen is at the forefront of these talks.

Rangers chairman Dave King was also present at Anfield on Tuesday as Liverpool pulled off a sensation 5-2 win against AS Roma, leading to further speculation

Well, this will be a major opportunity for Gerrard to take his managerial career forward but is it wise for Rangers to appoint someone with comparatively lesser experience? Only time will tell.
