Jurgen Klopp is certain that a number of Liverpool players will be signing contract extensions to extend their stay at the club after Roberto Firmino signed a new deal with the Reds.

The Brazilian has been one of the fab three this season with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also lighting up the attack for the Reds. Klopp is adamant that Firmino would not be the last player to commit his future with the club.

As quoted by the Guardian, the German said:

“It’s unbelievably important news for us, really cool.

“This is one very important step but even Roberto cannot play alone. We need to carry on in this way. In the moment every player knows about our plans. He’s the first [to commit] but for sure he won’t be the last.”

Klopp was also pleased to share that Firmino believed he could do well at Liverpool and that the Brazilian will play a big factor for us in the future.

“This constant discussion about whether he’s undervalued or whatever in public, this never happened for one second either in the club or in the team. He feels completely comfortable and is planning for the long term here.

“That’s becoming rare because if you are not Barcelona or not Real Madrid then there’s usually another club somewhere you can go to. It’s really good news for us. He’s absolutely a big factor in our future.”

Firmino has had a stellar season for us with 26 goals and 13 assists to his name. The Brazilian has formed a lethal partnership with Salah and Mane and him signing a new deal should be just the start of a slew of other players staying here for a long time.

Inevitably, the focus will be on Salah, Mane and a few others extending their stay at Anfield. We need to tie down our players if Klopp does believe that we could provide a future to players akin to two La Liga giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Liverpool have to build for the future but also keep performing at a consistent level and there is no better way than to keep the best players at Anfield for as long as possible.
