According to a report by The Mirror, Liverpool have retained their interest in West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini and are expected to push for a summer move. The Mirror had previously credited Liverpool with an interest in Lanzini and it looks like we could see him in the Merseyside next season.
Lanzini played a key role in West Ham’s bid to avoid relegation this season. He is an underrated player in the Premier League but a move to Liverpool would definitely boost his chances of playing at the top-level.
Although our attack has thrived with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah leading from the front, one cannot deny that we have lacked the services of a creative playmaker. To that end, a move for Lanzini could boost our chances of making a title-challenge next term.
Since Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona, Liverpool have somewhat lacked power in the creative department. On the flip side, Lanzini has failed to thrive in a set-up like West Ham’s, even though he did chip in with 5 goals and 7 assists.
The Mirror goes on to claim that Liverpool are also interested in a summer move for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir, who has attracted a lot of attention for his scintillating performances this season.
If it were to come down to a choice between these two, Fekir would obviously be a more reliable option but procuring a deal for Lanzini would effectively be hassle-free in comparison.
Hence, it remains to be seen how things progress but be it Lanzini or Fekir, we must sign a creative player this summer.
