Rhian Brewster

Liverpool have decided to cancel their pre-season match against Borussia Monchengladbach due to the issue surrounding the tapping up of Rhian Brewster.

A report from Sky Sports claims that we have also written to the Bundesliga side and have warned them over their pursuit of the young English striker.

Brewster has been out of action since undergoing ankle surgery at the start of the year but many expected him to get first-team minutes under Jurgen Klopp after helping England win the U17 World Cup.

The striker also picked up the Golden Boot at the tournament held in India but has not signed a professional contract despite turning 18 recently.

That seems to have been one reason why Monchengladbach have moved for the player. The match against the Bundesliga side was pencilled in on 7th of August but that seems to be off the cards until this situation is cleared up.

English players looking at the Bundesliga

Brewster would not be the first player looking to swap the Premier League for the Bundesliga, as many other English youngsters have joined the German league.

One of the biggest examples of that is Jadon Sancho, who left Manchester City to play for Borussia Dortmund and the youngster also got to play a few games for the German club’s first-team.

Brewster has a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see how this saga develops in the coming weeks and months.

There is no doubt that losing someone this young and talented will be a blow to us and the academy system while also paving the way for other players to take up the same move.

Hopefully, Klopp and the rest of the team can work their magic and ensure that Brewster signs a contract with us and stays for a number of years rather than ending up as an English import in Germany.
