Good news as Liverpool would pay no money to Southampton if they win the Champions League

Liverpool have raided Southampton for a number of players in recent seasons but as the Reds line up to face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League, the Saints are not expected to receive further cash should we win the title.

Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Virgil van Dijk have all swapped St. Mary’s for Anfield in recent years.

The Saints have earned a lot along the way but the Times

claims that Liverpool winning their 6th European Cup will not see any money transaction between the clubs.

The report claims that any bonus payments named for the players above are only for appearances made for the Reds and linked to Champions League qualification.

Liverpool will be taking part in the competition next season too, thanks to their 4th-place finish in the Premier League season but that is it for additional payment regarding the Champions League.

The Reds did sign another former Saint in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the start of the season from Arsenal to add to the list of former Saints at Anfield but the midfielder’s season was cut short after picking up a knee injury.

Liverpool certainly have been one of the best customers of Southampton players in the past few years and it seems to be paying dividends now as Mane, Lallana and Van Dijk certainly have been quality signings for the Reds.

Lovren might have made a number of high profile errors during his tenure at Anfield but the Croatian has always given it his all and has had a few quality performances too, especially during our Europa League run a couple of years ago.

Facing Madrid and beating them will certainly rank as one of the greatest moments in Liverpool history and not many would have expected this team to reach the final when the season began.

Should we pick up the title on Saturday, it would be a great achievement and irrespective of how we win it, there will be numerous celebrations all around the city of Liverpool.
