As per a report from The Mirror, Liverpool are set to step up their pursuit of a new goalkeeper this summer. After the horrific Champions League final against Real Madrid, it goes without saying that we are in dire need of a custodian between the sticks.
Simon Mignolet is clearly not up to the par whereas Loris Karius, despite showing initial signs of improvement, let us down majorly as he gifted Real a victory in Kiev.
Our attackers were absolutely exceptional this season and we got a glimpse of that as Sadio Mane scored the only goal for Liverpool against Los Blancos. However, like always, we failed to keep up a strict defence to deny the opponents and we eventually had to kiss our chances of a victory goodbye.
The Mirror claims AS Roma’s Alisson and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak are two of the prime targets for Jurgen Klopp ahead of the new season. Interestingly, the report also states that whoever we sign will don the No.1 jersey but Karius will continue to be the second-choice keeper.
Regardless, Roma are yet to fix a price for Alisson whereas Oblak’s release clause is believed to be in the region of £80m.
Signing either of these two players from their respective clubs will not be easy and suffice to say, Liverpool will have to drop the big bucks. We are in dire need of quality between the sticks and we cannot afford another Champions League fiasco next term. Hence, if we need to pay for a top-class keeper, we must do so without any hesitation.
