“Mistakes happen all the time” Former England international offers words of advice to Karius

Loris Karius

Former England international goalkeeper Robert Green believes that Loris Karius could move away from the country as he looks to bounce back from his dire performance in the Champions League final.

Speaking to the BBC, the former Norwich, Leeds United and QPR man stated that moving back to Germany would be a viable option for the former Mainz keeper.

“If he went back to Germany it would not be forgotten but there would be less of a spotlight.

“Moving out of the spotlight is no bad thing, just on a domestic level, going outside of the country where people would have been most interested in the game.”

Green certainly is one to speak of experience when it comes to making mistakes between the sticks. The keeper gifted the USA a goal in the 2010 World Cup and after that error, he was whistled by the away fans every time he got the ball.

The former international did have some words of advice for Karius and also wished the 24-year-old German would come back stronger ahead of next season.

“Unfortunately for Karius half the games are away from home and when he goes to play in front of the away end at Liverpool he would be getting it twice as bad as away from home. It is a long summer for him for sure.

“Mistakes happen all the time, they get highlighted more when you are a goalkeeper inevitably… but the fact of the matter is it cost them the game. It will stick with him for a while but it is how he bounces back from that and hopefully as a person and a goalkeeper he comes back stronger.”

Karius made two errors in the final against Madrid and after the 3-1 loss, he was in tears as he apologised to the Liverpool fans, who still supported the 24-year-old.

It was a tough game for the keeper, there is no doubt about that but with support coming in from all ends, he might stay at Liverpool next season. The German does have potential and with the right backing and training, he just might become a great keeper for us.
