Liverpool plot move for £10m attacker as backup option for Salah and Mane

Liverpool are interested in signing Nigeria winger Moses Simon from Belgian club Gent, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The report suggests that the 22-year-old would be available for a fee of £10million as he is in the final year of his contract, and has attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs.

Simon started his professional career with Trencin in Slovakia before moving to Gent in Belgium. The youngster was also a part of the Ajax youth squad before moving to Slovakia. The Gent star can play on either wing and contributed 6 goals and 3 assists for the club in 29 league games.

The youngster was initially included in the 30-man squad travelling to Russia for the World Cup but was later cut out from the final squad due to a lack of fitness as he was suffering from a hip injury.

Adding bench strength is a priority for Jurgen Klopp

Simon cannot be seen as a player who will jump straight into the starting XI as we have Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who occupy the wide roles.

What we do lack are wide players on the bench as our options mostly feature Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings, who are both strikers.

We were fortunate that Salah did not pick up a major injury last season as he banged in the goals for fun but we need to keep our players fresh next season too as we will be playing in the Champions League again.

Simon could turn out to be a surprise signing who could turn out to be another Mane. At a price of £10million, he might not be the worst player to add to the squad.
