Marco Asensio would be leaving Real Madrid if the La Liga side ends up signing Neymar according to reports from Spain.
Diario Gol (h/t The Express) claims that the 22-year-old attacking midfielder has threatened to quit the Champions League winners if they go ahead and sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.
Asensio has repeatedly told his teammates that he is leaving the side every time when talks of the Brazilian joining the La Liga side takes place.
The Spanish report also claims that Liverpool have enquired about the availability of the Spanish star on a number of occasions.
Liverpool face competition for Asensio’s signature as PSG and Juventus are interested in the services of the Spanish star. Asensio had another decent season for Real as he scored 6 times and assisted 6 goals in 32 La Liga games.
The attacker can play in a number of positions in the midfield and in the attack. Though he would not come on the cheap, Asensio would be a great signing for the Reds.
Asensio could be the ideal signing for Jurgen Klopp as he is young and might be looking to break into the Liverpool first-team for regular football.
It would not be easy for the Spaniard to replace Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, however, he can do a pretty good job in the role of Philippe Coutinho (as an attacking midfielder) while having Naby Keita and Fabinho as the protection behind him.
With Klopp and Liverpool having splashed big money on Keita and Fabinho, signing Asensio might not be a bad idea at all!
