Liverpool are targetting two goalkeepers from the Bundesliga as they look to replace Loris Karius between the sticks, according to Bild (h/t The Express).
While we have been linked with a move for Alisson of AS Roma and Jan Oblak too, their prices seem to be a little too high and the report claims we are looking at other options.
Firstly, we have Yann Sommer of Borussia Monchengladbach. The 29-year-old is currently with the Swiss national side in Russia and even starred in the 1-1 draw against Brazil in the World Cup.
The former Basel goalkeeper could cost us €30million since he is under contract to remain with the Bundesliga club until 2021. There is another player that is being linked with us and that is Jiri Pavlenka, who played for Werder Bremen last time around.
The 26-year-old Pavlenka took part in his first Bundesliga season last time around and finished with 10 clean sheets. The report goes on to say that the player might cost even lesser than Sommer.
More Bundesliga keepers at Liverpool
While the jury is still out on how well Karius has done at Anfield, moving for either player does seem like an easy way out for the club.
We might not want to pay crazy amounts for Oblak or Alisson but we should target keepers that can do a job for us in the present and for the future as well.
Sommer is 29 and is not someone who can grow and stay at the side for a number of years, while Pavlenka is inexperienced, which means a move for him would be risky too.
Hopefully, we get the right person for the job between the sticks next season and not have a debate about our goalkeeper problems again.
