Gelson Martins

Liverpool are considering a move for one of Portugal’s brightest players, Gelson Martins, according to The Mirror. The 23-year-old winger is one of several players who have cancelled their contracts at Portuguese club Sporting after the players were attacked by a number of fans.

We have been interested in the player earlier as well and with him not having a club now, we could get him for nothing. The winger was in fine form last season as he chipped in with 8 goals and 8 assists in 31 league games.

A number of his teammates from Sporting have already found new clubs and it should come as no surprise that the youngster has attracted interest from a number of other top clubs.

The Telegraph (h/t The Express) claims that Arsenal, Tottenham and even Everton are interested in the 23-year-old. Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio, who was also at Sporting, has joined Premier League new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers and Martins could be the next player to play in England.

There is no doubt that the player is quality and if we can get him ahead of the other teams, Martins could turn out to be one of the bargains of the season.

The 23-year-old mostly plays in the wide areas but he can also play in a more central role, so Jurgen Klopp could rest and rotate our side a lot with Martins in the team.

While we have brought in Naby Keita and Fabinho this season, we would need to bring in some attack-minded players too and Martins seems to fit the bill.

He might not be a big-name player but if he can perform to his potential, we would have a quality player playing for us.
