Sweden star Emil Forsberg has come out and stated that he is ready to leave his current side RB Leipzig and play for “the strongest clubs”.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen (h/t Football.london), the 26-year-old said:
“I’m ready for the next big step. That’s going to be very interesting. I am in dialogue with RB and always had a good relationship with the club.
“I have the dream of playing for the strongest clubs in the world.”
The attacker had been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past and with us not signing Nabil Fekir, we could be looking to bring the Leipzig man in.
In the 2016/17 season, Forsberg was on fire for the Bundesliga club as he notched up 22 assists in the league but last season was not too great as the Swede only provided a couple of assists in 21 Bundesliga outings.
There is no question that we need to add more depth to the side and Forsberg could be a cheap alternative to some of the crazy prices being paid at the moment for quality attackers.
Our relationship with Leipzig could also play a huge role as we did sign Naby Keita from the Bundesliga side and hopefully, they are still open to deal with us with regards to Forsberg.
While it is difficult to see him replace Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane out wide, Forsberg could end up playing in the midfield, like he did a number of times for Leipzig last season.
A midfield trio of Keita, Fabinho, and Forsberg does look tasty in theory and that could lead us to a lot of success in the coming years.
