Liverpool are still interested in Barcelona keeper Jasper Cillessen and are ‘probing’ about signing the Dutch keeper, according to reports from Spain. Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Star) claims that the 29-year-old’s representatives have probably been approached.
The report also says that the keeper, who plays second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, would want to listen to any offer on the table. Cillessen has a release clause of £53m but Barcelona could sell him for less than that.
We still have not made an official bid for the player that only played nine games in total for the La Liga giants.
There is also interest from Italian clubs AS Roma and Napoli should either club end up selling one of their goalkeepers.
A replacement keeper needed at Liverpool
We have been linked with a number of keepers in this transfer window and while the likes of Alisson and Jan Oblak would be extremely expensive, Cillessen would be a cheaper option than the other two.
Whoever comes in should be looking to replace Loris Karius between the sticks and it will be important for us to get the right player in given that we need solidity at the back. While Cillessen has not played regular football for the Catalan giants, he still is a quality keeper.

The only problem with him is his age. Him being 29 doesn’t provide us confidence that he is the keeper who can grow and develop in the coming years and maybe we should look for someone younger.
