Liverpool target Jan Oblak has indicated that he is happy staying at Atletico Madrid. The 25-year-old was asked if he wanted to stay at the La Liga club and he was quoted by AS (h/t Metro) as saying,
“I have a contract.”
The Slovenian keeper has also seen a lot of work done by Atletico in signing Diego Costa last season and bringing in players such as Thomas Lemar from Monaco.
Antoine Griezmann, who is possibly the biggest player in the Atletico side, is also staying at the club and has penned a new deal too which is something Oblak alluded to.
“Of course, I like the team we are building.”
The Slovenian, who has a release clause of £88m, has been one of the best keepers in La Liga in recent years and it does seem like he will be staying at the club under Diego Simeone.
This will come as a blow to us as we have been looking at goalkeeping solutions ahead of the season and Oblak certainly would have been an excellent signing.
We will now have to turn our attention to another keeper and we simply must invest in one. Going into another campaign with Loris Karius as our No.1 would be a huge risk.
There is still time for us to crack a deal for a few players and it will be interesting to see who we end up signing.
