Bad news as Liverpool’s formal €18m bid to sign World Cup semi-finalist has been turned down

Liverpool have seen a bid of €18m get rejected by Turkish giants Besiktas for Domagoj Vida, according to Fanatik.

The Croatian defender has been one of the stalwarts for the national side as they prepare to face England for a place in the World Cup final. His prolific displays have seen him get linked with a move away from the Turkish league.

Despite the fact that Vida had joined them for free, the report claims that Besiktas want to make as much money as they can for the 29-year-old. The Turkish giants are looking at a fee of €35m for the Croatian centre-back.

There are a number of other Premier League clubs interested in Vida, with West Ham United, Everton and Fulham keeping tabs on the 29-year-old.

Vida would be a decent option to have at the back but he probably would not be a first-choice defender for us next season. After all, we have Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren as the obvious pairing.

We also have the likes of Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and a fit-again Joe Gomez looking to cover Lovren and Van Dijk.

However, Vida would bring in a lot of experience to the side and he could be a decent option to have alongside his national teammate Lovren.

Paying €18m would be fine for the much-travelled defender but under no circumstances should we part with €35m for a 29-year-old who won’t be first-choice at the club next season.
