“We’re going to work our socks off ” – Key first-team member talks about Liverpool’s trophy drought

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk is confident the club can end their trophy drought under Jurgen Klopp in the coming season.

The Dutch defender helped us reach the Champions League final last season but we lost to Real Madrid 3-1. That has been the tale for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp as the German has lost all cup finals he has led us to.

However, Van Dijk is willing to work harder and bring silverware to Anfield next season. While speaking to the Liverpool website, the former Southampton defender said:

“We’re going to work our socks off and do everything possible to make it happen this season. We were very close to silverware but obviously not close enough,”

The Dutch defender also added that he would be looking to improve his own game and is now concentrating on getting back to full fitness.

“I can improve in any aspect of the game. At the moment, it’s getting back to full fitness, making sure I’m getting better and stronger than I was before. I will work every day and do everything possible and no doubt it will happen.”

We have looked like much better under Klopp than we have done under other managers in recent years and the German seems to be building a great team for the present and the future.

The Reds seem to be missing one or two parts of the puzzle and also we haven’t had the luck in recent times when it comes to the big games.

However, the experience of making a Champions League run and qualifying for the competition again should help us get better as we attempt for silverware in the coming season.
