Klopp does a U-turn as Liverpool prepare to offer 25-year-old backup a chance to prove himself

Danny Ward

Jurgen Klopp is not willing to dip into the transfer market for a new keeper and will give Danny Ward the chance to become the Liverpool No.1 this season.

The Welsh keeper has impressed in our two pre-season games and a report from the Mirror suggests that Klopp is happy with the attitude of the former Wrexham keeper.

The 25-year-old keeper, however, played just one match for us last season. Ward was on loan at Huddersfield a couple of seasons ago but Klopp was not sure about playing him regularly last campaign.

However, with Loris Karius and his latest error against Tranmere, Ward has a real chance of impressing the boss and will be given time and space to become our No.1 keeper.

The report also claims that Klopp has no plans of entering the race to sign another keeper and there has been no bid for Alisson of AS Roma.

Loris Karius

No harm in giving Ward a chance

This is exactly what Ward would have wanted. Pre-season games might not count for much but if he can keep a few clean sheets and marshal the defence well, we might have found a decent enough solution for the new season.

It isn’t to say we should not be looking at other targets, however, Ward could turn out to be a quality option in the years to come.

The Welsh keeper did do pretty well with Huddersfield a couple of seasons ago and with a good pre-season behind him, Ward could be the player to surprise us this season.
