Liverpool could have captured new signing for just £4million in 2015 – report

Alisson

Liverpool might have paid a world-record fee of £67million to sign Alisson from AS Roma but the Mirror now claims that we could have signed the Brazilian keeper in July 2015 for a fee of just £4million.

The report claims that Alisson’s agent Ze Maria Neis had asked UK-based intermediaries to seal a move to England as that was the keeper’s preferred destination at that time.

Alisson was playing for Internacional and Liverpool were among a number of Premier League and Championship clubs that received a highly informative and detailed scouting report on the Brazilian keeper.

The report on Alisson also included a testimonial from Claudio Taffarel, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper from Brazil, who claimed that the former AS Roma keeper was the best young goalkeeper coming out from South America.

Any club looking to sign Alisson would have had to pay a sum of £3.1m up front and the remaining fee would have to be paid as add-ons.

Alisson’s stock had been on the rise at that point and just three months later, he made his debut for the national side in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.

Liverpool struggled for a while to find a quality keeper ever since Pepe Reina left and Alisson could have been a cheap signing for us had we actually done some research on the 25-year-old.

However, things are not always as easy as it looks in the world of football. Alisson only came to the limelight when he was made the No.1 keeper for Roma last season, else, we might not have signed him.

Alisson is our keeper now and we should be looking at the positives of the deal rather than harping on what could have been.
