“To learn from him is great” – Liverpool loanee opens up about move to join Anfield legend at new club

Ryan Kent has become the latest signing for Steven Gerrard as the Liverpool winger has joined the former Liverpool captain at Scottish club Rangers.

Gerrard only took over at the Scottish club at the start of the season but already signed a couple of other Liverpool players in the form of Ovie Ejaria and Jon Flanagan who signed on a free.

The 21-year-old Kent is one of the brightest prospects at Anfield and he was excited to complete the move. While speaking to RangersTV (h/t Express) he claimed that the move was a no-brainer and it would be great to work under Gerrard.

“They have got a person in charge now in Steven Gerrard who has played at the highest level and achieved many great things. To learn from him is great, and I already know some of the players here.”

Kent also added that Rangers have another former Liverpool backroom staff member in Michael Beale, who he had worked with in the U23s at the club.

While the youngster wants to make the best out of the move, he did suggest that last season’s loan deal with Bundesliga side Freiburg did not go as plan but that he is hopeful for a better time this season.

“Last season was a disappointing year. I made my debut against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena [for Freiburg] and was involved in a promotion chase with Bristol City, so I did take a lot away from last season.

“I am hoping to build on that this year. Playing in front of 50,000 every week, you have got to turn out and perform. Playing on such a big stage, I don’t see how that can’t benefit you for the future.”

Kent stated that he would bring a lot of excitement to the fans at the club and it will be fun to see what he can do by playing regularly for a top club like Rangers.

Gerrard does have a few quality players on his side and they would need to challenge Celtic to see how close they can get to Brendan Rodgers’ team.
