Liverpool ace to be given chance to earn new deal after impressing in the pre-season

Liverpool will allow Daniel Sturridge to prove he is worth a contract extension as he enters the final 12 months of his current deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The 28-year-old has had a poor time with injuries under Jurgen Klopp and had even moved on loan to West Bromwich Albion in the second half of last season but he failed to impress at the Hawthorns.

While there were suggestions that Liverpool were willing to let go of the striker for a fee of £15million, the Englishman has reportedly impressed the manager during pre-season.

The former Chelsea striker has looked sharp and fit in all the pre-season games he has played and there is an outside chance of him starting the first Premier League game of the season against West Ham United.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have just joined the side for the US pre-season tour while Roberto Firmino is still on holiday. This could be the chance for Sturridge to stake a claim in the starting XI against the Hammers.

The report also claims that Klopp never doubted Sturridge’s ability, however, the club is ready to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of this season if things don’t work out.

This does look like a make or break season for Sturridge and if he can stay fit for the entire campaign, he could be an excellent option.

Sturridge can also lead the line and help us rest Firmino for some of the games in the season. And if we can get Sturridge playing for us at his peak, he can be devastating to the opposition defences.
