Former Liverpool player John Barnes has claimed that Manchester City stars Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva would not suit Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The pair helped City win the Premier League last season as we finished a mammoth 25 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men.

Barnes was speaking to the Express and he claimed that Klopp only wants players that fit into his “high-energy system”.

“I don’t think he would have a Kevin De Bruyne or a David Silva. They don’t fit into the system Klopp wants.

“Klopp wants high-energy players who probably haven’t got the technical quality of a De Bruyne or a Silva.

“Klopp knows he can get the best out of his team, very much like [Jose] Mourinho can get the best out of his team without having players like that.

“In terms of success, he can be as successful without having those types of players.”

Dominic Solanke

The former Red also provided an example of a player like Dominic Solanke, who would help Liverpool more than Chelsea under the German manager.

The Reds brought in four quality players in the summer and started the season with a convincing 4-0 win over the Hammers.

Liverpool certainly have all it takes to make a real challenge for the Premier League title and it will be interesting to see how we perform in the coming weeks.

The Reds have to be consistent irrespective of whether they face the big or small sides and hopefully, we can end the Premier League duck with Klopp at the helm.
