Lyon star Nabil Fekir is unsure why his move to Liverpool collapsed while speaking to Foot Mercato (h/t Daily Mail). Fekir has claimed that he has put this proposed transfer to bed and wants to “move on”.
The World Cup winner was close to a £53million
switch to Anfield in the summer but negotiations were due to the 25-year-old’s fitness as per the Daily Mail. The Frenchman was quoted by Foot Mercato (h/t Daily Mail) as saying:
“Yes, I have totally come to terms with the failed transfer to Liverpool.
“These things happen, it’s just how it is. We have to move on, it’s well in the past now.”
The forward added that only Liverpool knew why the deal broke down.
“I heard lots of things, the real reason? Only Liverpool know.”
The Daily Mail further claimed that the French attacker was seen as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho but medical issues came up after the player had agreed to a five-year deal at Anfield.
Fekir was a part of the World Cup winning squad with France but mostly came on as a substitute in the tournament. Liverpool, on their part, were busy in the summer window, signing four players.
The Frenchman would have provided us with another dimension in the attack had he signed for us. However, the 25-year-old is focussed on the job ahead with Lyon as he wants to take them as far as possible.
Hopefully, we sign a proper Coutinho replacement in January.
